Regional Liaison Director, CVRM - West

AstraZeneca holds a unique position in CVRM disease, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperkalemia, heart failure, and other related conditions.   The CVRM pipeline also has a number of promising assets.

Typical Accountabilities:
The CVRM Regional Liaison Director leads a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) who are the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in CKD, hyperkalemia, and heart failure.  The CVRM Regional Liaison Director is accountable for execution of the Medical Affairs strategy in support of the organization’s business objectives. The Regional Liaison Director is also part of the Medical Affairs Leadership team, led by the CVRM Medical Head.  The Regional Liaison Director must lead, evolve, and embrace change in response to company direction and growth, including establishing and iterating on standard operating procedures and best practices. 

Additional accountabilities include driving the development of high performing MSLs; this includes hiring, recruiting, ongoing performance and talent assessment, and succession planning. Partner with Medical Leadership to understand and execute field medical strategy for assigned therapeutic area.  Provide direction and prioritization to MSLs around prioritized account and customer engagement plans, speaker program support, clinical trial support, scientific exchange and collaborative research within the region and therapeutic area. Provide information and insight to help inform headquarter strategy and internal stakeholders. Serve as a role model fostering personal accountability and ownership of individual and team success.


The CVRM Regional Liaison Director will also facilitate training and development opportunities for direct reports while also providing timely feedback and coaching to MSLs to improve performance and business impact. Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration; manage and oversee team financial resources and oversee direct report compliance with all guidelines and policies.

Essential Requirements:
• Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD, MSN, NP, PA, etc.). BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered.   
• > 3 years of pharmaceutical industry experience preferably leading Field Medical Affairs teams or showing team leadership potential
• Experience in product launch development and execution
• Experience with (informing) product strategy development and execution
• Strong entrepreneurial spirit
• Basic knowledge/understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and strong leadership capabilities
• Ability to travel 

Desirable Requirements:
• Previous management experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development is an asset 
• > 3 years of pharmaceutical Medical Science Liaison experience
