Project description:
The AZ developed physiological based biopharmaceutic model (PBBM) GI-Sim, is frequently used to assess the interplay of various biopharmaceutics properties of different APIs and formulations during drug development. The GI-Sim tool incorporates both pre-clinical models (rat, dog, mouse) and human models (fed & fasted). During the last few years, the pig has become an often used pre-clinical species in PK and tox studies and hence the development of a pig model in GI-Sim is highly needed.

During this Master thesis you will review the literature and collect data on the physiology of the pig, i.e. GIT volumes, transit times, permeability, micelle concentrations etc. Based on the collected data the student will build a Pig model(s) in GI-Sim and validate the model(s) with in-house PK data from previous studies. 

Essential Requirements:

  • Ongoing Master studies in relevant area - pharmaceutics, bioscience or similar.
