Senior Scientist, Analytical Chemist, Oncology, IMED Biotech Unit

As an AnalyticalChemist (Senior Scientist) inthe Oncology group in Waltham, MA you’ll play an important role in advancing new oncology drug projects to make a positive impact on patients’ lives. This is a hands-on laboratory position within a world-leading global medicinal chemistry group with a history of delivery and innovation. Core Accountabilities:

  • Analytical chemist supporting oncology drug discovery programs through purification and analysis of potential drugs.
  • Analytical method development to solve separation problems.
  • Perform reverse phase, normal phase, and/or supercritical fluid chromatography.
  • Purification of samples in mg and gram quantities, in singleton and multiple parallel synthesis formats, based upon mass- or UV-directed collection.
  • Produce quality results in an efficient and timely manner, working individually, as well as part of a team.
  • Independently collect, analyze and interpret data, recognize aberrant results, and conduct follow-up analyses as needed.
  • Serve as analytical department representative on select synthetic/medicinal chemistry project teams, coordinating non-routine analytical requests and discussions around potential new methods needed.
  • Drive improvements to projects and department through sharing best practices.
  • Prepare summaries of work for presentations, reports, and patent applications.
  • Publish work in peer reviewed journals and/or present work at external or internal conferences.
  • Stay up-to-date with literature in analytical chemistry and advances in broader modalities that influence oncology research.
  • Able to work across functional area boundaries, for example, with colleagues in DMPK and/or computational chemistry.
  • Act in accordance with all AstraZeneca policies on personnel, safety/health/environment regulations, best laboratory practice, and Code of Conduct.

Essential Requirements:

  • BS/MS or PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field, and/or several years of successful experience obtained in the pharmaceutical and/or chemical industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with chiral and achiral separations at analytical and preparative scale.
  • Experience with the operation of HPLC, UHPLC, SFC, and LC-MS instrumentation, including data interpretation.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and basic repairs of HPLC, UHPLC, and SFC instrumentation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a must.
  • Strong time management skills, forward planning, and delivery focus.
  • Experience with Waters MassLynx software and Waters separation equipment is desirable (FractionLynx, Prep100, etc.)
