In addition to our passion for the discovery of innovative new medicines, we understand the importance of flexibility in our work-life environment and we offer a wide variety of benefits, services and programs that provide our employees the resources they need to pursue not only their work goals but also their life goals.  We are dedicated to building strong research teams that embrace the diversity of talents of team members and allow the larger group to grow and learn together to accomplish our collective goal to improve human health.

Exciting opportunity to join the Chemical Biology & Proteomics team at AZ and contribute to the protein degradation field. Team player responsible for quantitative mass spectrometry studies to elucidate mechanisms of action and global degradation profiles of small molecule degraders for driving key project decisions. An ideal candidate will have knowledge of ubiquitin proteasome biology and its role in protein homeostasis.

Key Accountabilities:

The Senior Scientist – Chemical Biology will be accountable for specified aspects of the chemical biology strategies according to the project objectives that include:

  • Designing and delivering on projects with the highest scientific standards, utilizing quantitative proteomics-based methods such as global and targeted proteomics and chemoproteomics pull-downs to address specific biological questions.
  • Collaborating with the chemical biology platform and various project teams, across scientific disciplines such as chemistry, molecular biology, and safety, to contribute to experimental design and mechanistic hypothesis generation through the interpretation of complex proteomics data
  • Actively contribute to shape and advancement of the scientific direction of projects as a member of cross-functional teams through presentation of their data and contribution to the overall success of the project.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, regularly presenting internal updates and contributing to publication strategy in high level peer-reviewed journals and international conferences

The ideal candidate will be scientifically curious with a desire to learn as well as lead and impart insight in their discipline.

The ideal candidate should be/have:

  • The ability to independently design and execute comprehensive experiments for cellular signaling pathway interrogation, hypothesis testing and practical knowledge with suitable biological models.
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience in bottom-up mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics to understand the effect of small molecules in disease-relevant biological systems, ideally including degradation selectivity and mechanism of small molecule protein degraders.
  • The ability to understand context of disease biology, integrate into multidisciplinary project teams, and identify opportunities to apply proteomics-based methods to drive biological understanding.
  • Proficiency in use and maintenance of Orbitrap mass spectrometers (e.g. QE+, Lumos), as well as in proteomic sample preparation and MS quantification methods such as SILAC, TMT, iTRAQ.
  • Expertise in data processing (Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant) and data analysis with a fundamental knowledge of statistics.
  • Active in Chemical Biology forums and publication record in the field (communications to symposiums, peer reviewed journal articles and/or patent applications).
