Position Title: Senior Manager, Payer Relations, BC/SK (Onco and non-Onco)

Position Type: Regular Full-Time

Reporting to the Director of Payer Relations, this role is a critical strategic position within AstraZeneca Canada accountable for the development and execution of the payer engagement strategy for AstraZeneca’s priority therapeutic areas of focus (Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular-Metabolic) to facilitate rapid and optimized patient access to our life changing medicines through public reimbursement.

  • You lead, develop and execute regional payer engagement strategies for priority brands aligned with Market Access/Pricing strategies to facilitate optimized public reimbursement
  • You collaborate with Market Access Strategy and Medical, lead the execution of early payer engagement meetings to discuss clinical and economic value propositions of priority brand submissions
  • You work to develop the payer value brand propositions to drive optimal implementation of reimbursement strategies
  • With the help of multi-stakeholder engagement (drug plan managers, KEEs, cancer agencies, patient groups, etc.) you provide ongoing regional/national insights to inform cross-functional strategies and reimbursement strategies.
  • As a key member of the brand team, you provide guidance as SME on field related input into commercial strategies
  • You ensure cross-functional collaboration with field colleagues to align respective strategies to support reimbursement objectives
  • Together with Market Access Strategy and Pricing, you support the development of pCPA negotiation strategies for priority brands and regional contractual negotiations to optimize lifecycle management of established brands
  • You conduct early implementation discussions with provincial drug programs/cancer agencies to aid in the rapid implementation of PLAs following completion of negotiations.


  • You come equipped with a Bachelors’ degree/Advanced degree in science, economics, social sciences or business
  • You are seasoned with 7-10 years of Pharmaceutical experience, and a minimum 5 years market access experience (market access, government affairs, marketing, sales, medical) with a consistent record of success
  • Experience leading projects that involve cross functional partnership
  • Experience developing and executing payer engagement strategies
  • Oncology experience would be seen as an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pCODR, CDR, INESSS and pCPA processes
  • Network of regional Payer/Cancer agency/KEE contacts and in-depth knowledge of BC and SK stakeholder networks would be useful in this role.
