Senior Solution Architect

Location: Macclesfield - occasional travel

Career Level: GCL F

  • Senior Solution Architect (Data) - ERPS programme as SAP Data Architect.
  • This role sits within the Operations IT department, within the Architecture, Data and Intelligence (ADI) team.
  • This role reports into the Lead Enterprise Architect for Manufacturing, BI & Data.

Your focus & challenge

  • You will develop the architecture strategy and solutions for Master Data Management, predominantly across our SAP environment. Your main focus will be supply chain data (material master) but will extend into other major data objects for finance and procurement.
  • The ERP Simplification (ERPS) Programme is an SAP consolidation programme, that includes implementing SAP master data governance (MDG) and material code harmonisation (MCH) within its scope.
  • As the lead data architect on the ERPS programme, you will be responsible for the solution architecture for MDG, material code harmonisation and data migration. A key part of your role will be ensuring the alignment of the “One data” workstream with the rest of the ERPS programme in terms of timings and dependencies.
  • Key work you do will include the creation and maintenance of appropriate blueprints and artefacts such as schematics and patterns to describe and communicate the system landscape.
  • You will provide continuous mentorship to the integration of independent master data management projects which require accurate and effective flow of information.
  • Undertake supplier evaluation and selection exercises in support of new requirements.
  • Seek and identify innovation opportunities to improve existing, and deliver new, capabilities in support of the Operations 2025 Strategy, IT strategy and SAP strategy.
  • Support the development of business cases.
  • Define the solution architecture and ensure alignment to global standards.

Architecture accountabilities

  • You will be accountable for the direction, performance and ongoing health of the current solution architectures within the Data portfolio.
  • You will define and own the solution architecture principles and standards for the Data portfolio.
  • You will be responsible for the architecture and design of a comprehensive set of solutions that meet business requirements and are aligned to AstraZeneca’s Enterprise Architecture.
  • You will be responsible for guiding and supporting other architects (including third party suppliers) in the development and documentation of IS/IT architectures for complex and business critical projects.
  • You will provide solution selection decisions, buy versus build decisions, and early-phase project estimates which supply to business cases.
  • You will own the effort to ensure that common architecture decisions support the business and IS strategy, and that the architectures delivered are aligned with meaningful AZ architecture standards, blueprints and roadmaps.
  • Analyse alternative solution options, document them and provide recommendations for key design decisions as part of the architecture design and blueprint process.
  • Participate in architecture assessments & reviews either as lead reviewing architect or as a domain authority in the review team.
  • Develop the architecture capability within IS, by documenting and sharing knowledge and standard methodologies with peer architects.
  • Provide domain expertise to ensure business opportunities are identified and realised in line with a standard and cost-effective solution architecture.
  • You will build estimates for solution delivery including expertise to validate third party estimates and hence ensure value for money.
  • Define and document architecture standards for the meaningful domain area and deliver feedback on how to improve architecture standards.
  • Document standard methodologies, drive re-use of existing solutions and, in collaboration with other architects, promote solutions for re-use.

Your Key Relationships

  • ERPS programme IT and business team members, including the Data Leads for IT and business.
  • Operations IT Enterprise and Solution Architects.
  • Operations IT Capability teams (business relationship managers and business analysts); portfolio, programme and project managers; capability leads, regional leads and site IT managers; and service managers.
  • Operations IT Data and Business Intelligence teams, including Data Lead and BI Lead.
  • Business partnering with Data and BI.
  • Enterprise and Solution Architects in other AstraZeneca IT teams, including other customer facing IT teams (CFITs), Cyber Security &Infrastructure Services (CS&IS), and Software Shared Services (SSS).

Technical Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential skills :       Experience in SAP MM (Material Master) Module

  • Validated solution architect experience in the data and information architecture domain and preferably one other architecture domain (application, integration, infrastructure, or security).
  • Experience crafting end-to-end solutions that operate across all domains of IT.
  • Validated skills and experience in solution architectecture large projects.
  • Experience of writing solution options documents, high level solution design documents (blueprints) and documenting key design decisions.
  • Experience of the architecture and design of the SAP MDM / MDG module.
  • Experience of working on large SAP consolidation programmes as a data architect.
  • Extensive experience of SAP Materials Management (MM) within SAP ERPs Logistics function and the integration between other modules including but not limited to Quality Management, Plant Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, SD and APO.
  • Experience across a variety of Operations capability areas i.e. Supply Chain and Distribution, Procurement, Manufacturing, Factory Operations or Quality, BI & Information (Master Data).
  • Experience of large scale solution selection phase work – product evaluation and business case formulation.
  • Experience with policies, procedures and guidelines within a quality, compliant, and secure environment.

Education and Qualifications

  • Meaningful technical degree or equivalent.
  • TOGAF or similar architecture qualification.

Business Skills and Experience

  • Experience of leading and managing change in a complex environment; and of working in multi-functional teams.
  • Proven initiative, strong customer orientation, and cross-cultural ways of working.
  • Well-developed communication and facilitation skills.
  • Validated ability to influence across business and IT partners at senior levels.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical / healthcare industry, of AstraZeneca business insight and strategy, and of competitor activity.
