Business Information Manager - Information Lifecycle Management (ILM)

12 Month - Secondment/FTO  Fixed  term contract

As the Business Information Manager, will collaborate with the ILM Lead, and drive the creation and management of business information and data in line with AstraZeneca, regulatory and legal Information Management (IM) and Knowledge Sharing principles, policies and standards.

You will form part of the Data & Information Governance (D&IG) group, which is part of the broader Data Enablement function within IT. You will also drive consistency and alignment across AstraZeneca IM principles, policies and standards. You will lead initiatives to maximise the value from information and provide advise and mentorship for the development, implementation and support of business information management processes and systems. You will need to work with change and use future technology to deliver effective information lifecycle management techniques. We would like you to be accountable for ensuring that AstraZeneca business critical information and data are effectively protected and proven for decision - making. You will own the information and data lifecycle and advise customers on the regulatory, legal and commercial implications of information and data storing, sharing, archiving, disposing. We would like you to possess a blend of experience in good information practice, meaningful data domain experience and relevant domain business processes.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Assist in the delivery of the Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) processes in line with the data & information governance strategy and framework to assist the business with compliance with information management related rules, regulations and standards;
  • You will develop and deliver ILM principles, rules, standards, training & education in line with governance processes;
  • We would like you to work with ILM lead to develop monitoring and assurance process including metrics and maturity model to help to identify and measure ILM non-compliance and risks in the business, make recommendations to fix;
  • Ensure that ILM monitoring and assurance process supports AZ needs (Audit, Compliance, Legal, Cyber Security and Privacy). This work will include the development of various communication methods including face to face training, online mentorship and education, using the latest technology where appropriate, to deliver a consistent and easy to understand message regarding the purpose and methods for implementing the rules;
  • Ensure external legal and regulatory data/information requirements are aligned with AstraZeneca internal business requirements; and, communicated across the business;
  • Seek opportunities to automate/simplify ILM processes/services are working efficiently across AZ;
  • Deliver ILM messages through communication, training and documenting standard methodology;
  • Understand the businesses’ processes, the associated information flows, existing ILM processes used across AZ, rules and standards to enable dedicated support and guidance on enterprise information lifecycle management;
  • Advise on data owners in the lifecycle management of their information through communication, training and documenting standard methodology.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience


  • Relevant Degree or experience (science, maths, engineering or information management);
  • Excellent level of knowledge and experience in information lifecycle management;
  • A real passion for data/information and its importance in driving business performance;
  • An understanding of the purpose of rules, standards, policies, procedures and guidelines within a quality, compliance and legal environment;
  • Experience of inspiring change with creative solutions
  • A consistent track record of delivering business value and awareness of the impact on service levels;
  • Experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context;
  • Experience delivering education and training;
  • Experience in working in a team to deliver projects.


  • Domain data understanding: Understanding of Pharmaceutical processes, information and data regulations
  • External links with forums, universities and information professional bodies

Skills and Capabilities


  • Demonstrate good communication skills with the ability to influence others to achieve objectives

  • Ability to convince and play a domain expert role in negotiations across a complex group

  • Ability to interpret and communicate detailed subject matter information into business language


  • Demonstrate understanding and use of ILM technologies
