This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated Statistician to join the Product Development teams at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. Join us and be an active member of a multi skilled group, working closely together with analysts, formulators, chemists and biologists in our joint effort to drive the projects forward.

Pharmaceutical Technology & Development, which employs around 500 people at AstraZeneca Gothenburg, design and delivers the active drug product (including formulations, devices and packaging), required to support new medicines. Likewise, we design and deliver products to be used in toxicology studies or clinical trials, and we develop technology to ensure that drug product can be scaled up and established at manufacturing on a commercial scale.

We work closely with other internal functions and external partners such as regulatory authorities.

At Product Development (PD) Sweden, a division of Pharmaceutical Technology & Development, we focus on the fields of Immediate Release, Oral Controlled Release, New Modality, and Inhalation Drug Products for diverse therapeutic areas.

We are now looking for a qualified statistician with strong technical capability and experience in delivering statistical impact to the business.

In this role, you are expected to fulfil the description given below.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acting as an expert in statistics by providing development projects with advice and active support for design and statistical analysis of experimental data, risk assessments and recommendations, trouble-shooting, etc.
  • Pursuing and participating in dialogues and negotiations with regulatory authorities and internal regulatory experts about statistical issues
  • Network with internal and external experts to develop and maintain a high statistical quality and competence within PD
  • Providing training and coaching in statistics to other scientists
  • Identifying improvements that can be successfully applied to contribute to achievement of business goals
  • Involvement in strategic discussions

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum qualification of an MSc in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics, higher degree is a merit
  • Deep knowledge in areas such as experimental design, statistical modelling and statistical process control.
  • Practical experience of applying statistical ideas to solve critical business problems, preferably in pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience of modelling and simulation to improve experimental design and decision making
  • Experienced user of multiple mainstream statistical packages

Skills and Capabilities

  • You will have demonstrated the ability to deliver projects independently as well as work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will show a willingness to actively engage with a range of challenges
  • Ability to drive scientific projects on your own and to coach and mentor others in a cross-functional environment
  • Deliver well documented data of right quality in a timely manner
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Well-developed communication, consultancy and influencing skills are considered an additional qualification for this role
