Job Description

The Research Department of Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity is looking for a scientist to apply multi-omics approaches to study the heterogeneity of respiratory diseases and support novel target and biomarker discovery. S/he will have a unique opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment with bioinformatics and bench scientists. S/he will collect, integrate and mine multi-omics data (including but not limited to genomics, proteomics and microbiome data) from patient derived samples and model systems, to understand novel cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of respiratory diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and asthma.

This position requires a combination of strong scientific background in understanding human diseases and the ability to work with multi-omics data. We are looking for a candidate who can multitask and work in a fast-pace environment, be creative and collaborative, and enthusiastic to make an impact on human health. S/he will also be able to drive publication of discovery in high impact journals.


  • Collect, process, curate and interpret data from omics platforms, including but not limited to genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, single cell sequencing and microbiome data
  • Integrate multiple data types to develop hypotheses to understand the heterogeneity of respiratory diseases and propose new drug targets and biomarkers
  • Working with bench scientists to facilitate data mining activities, including searching and extracting data from public databases, building data browsers and visualization tools
  • Develop novel approaches to apply machine learning to projects in drug discovery and development
  • Generate reports, present discoveries in conferences and publish in high impact journals


  • A PhD with 0-5 years’ working experience or Master's degree with 5-7 years’ working experience in computational biology, respiratory, molecular biology or related areas. 
  • Strong scientific background in lung biology, physiology and disease, especially Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Asthma and Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
  • Hands-on skills in working with omics data (microarray, high-throughput sequencing, DNA methylation profiling, and non-coding RNA profiling), including data management, analysis, integration, interpretation and visualization
  • Programming proficiency and experience with relevant software tools such as R, Bioconductor, Rshiny, Python, pathway analysis tools, version control (Git/Bitbucket) and databases, as well as Linux environment and cluster/cloud computing
  • Highly motivated, innovative and reliable with the ability to effectively solve problems
  • Efficient communication with both bench scientists and informatics scientists
  • Proven ability to publish in peer reviewed journals, generate technical report summaries and protocols

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with human samples or clinical cohorts
  • Experience with molecular techniques (qPCR, cell culture, flow cytometry), in vitro assays and/or mouse models
  • Experience with microbiome data
  • Experience with single cell sequencing analysis and data interpretation
  • Working knowledge with machine learning (ML) algorithms
