Position Summary:

The department of Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity is searching for biologists with a background in immunology or infectious diseases.  This is a hands-on laboratory-based position to support pre-clinical research to further our understanding of the disease-driving mechanisms and to develop new medicines for respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis. The candidate will assist in study design, execution and data analysis of complex and technically demanding in vitro and in vivo experiments using a variety of cellular and molecular techniques.  The candidate will develop close working relationships within a highly collaborative environment using strong interpersonal and communication skills to advance team goals. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, execution and analysis of experiments
  • Cell isolation techniques and cell culture.
  • Function cell-based experiments with human and animal cells
  • Analysis of samples using multi-parameter flow cytometry, histology, ELISA, PCR, taqman, western blot and other assays
  • Provide hands-on support for in vivo experiments clinical scoring, necropsy, tissue collection and sample preparation
  • Prepare reports, summaries, protocols and maintain appropriate documentation, and present findings in group meetings

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS with 2-4 years or MS with 1-2 years of laboratory experience in a related field, ideally in industry and including basic in vivo experience;

Special Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable of multitasking within a high energy team environment
  • Highly organized, motivated and flexible with an attention to detail
  • Experience with data and statistical analysis and Microsoft applications.
  • Job Complexity:  With guidance from experience scientists, the candidate is expected to perform a number of complex and technically demanding functions to deliver reliable and consistent results.
