Title: Innovative Value Strategies and Evidence Director

Astrazeneca is committed to develop Innovative Value Strategies (IVS) to provide more flexibility in reimbursement and funding decisions and ensuring access to our innovative treatments.

We are looking for IVS and Evidence Directors for each of our therapeutic areas – Oncology, Cardiovascular Renal Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory. Roles are available across our 3 hub locations - Gaithersburg, MD; Cambridge, UK; Gothenburg, Sweden. This is a Director level role within AstraZeneca, and an integral member of the respective Market Access and Pricing team. As the IVS and Evidence Director, you will be the IVS content expert for the respective Franchise, and will be the champion for all Franchise IVS areas to ensure that tangible, compelling payer offerings are aligned to market expectations, that they satisfy all AZ legal & compliance requirements, and that deliverables reflect the necessary innovation and creativity to be best-in-class in meeting the challenges of a rapidly evolving global payer landscape.

As leader of a Global IVS Working Group, development and execution of Global IVS Frameworks will be accomplished in collaboration with Global Medical Affairs, Global Corporate Affairs, Global Commercial, Pricing and Market Access Directors, Health Economics & Payer Evidence Leaders, and IVS Leaders from key markets. In this role, you will demonstrate exceptional insights, knowledge and influencing skills to be able to bring diverse opinions together and build and execute a strategy meeting the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development and delivery of Global IVS Frameworks, and in collaboration with Global Pricing and Market Access Directors (PMADs), develop brand-specific and/or disease area IVS Frameworks
  • For products in development, define IVS options for lead indications that optimize the value of life cycle management opportunities. Ensure these options connect seamlessly with AstraZeneca near launch, launch and in-market brands.
  • Develop 2-5 year Therapy Area (TA) IVS plan and strategy, and lead internal innovation to evolve AZ capability for future IVS evolution and trends
  • Think more broadly than the brand/disease to identify innovative solutions and share best practices with Market Access & Pricing colleagues
  • Develop IVS communication plans and work with other cross-functional team members and marketing companies as they integrate and deliver this through their communication activities
  • Chair the Global IVS Working Group, which includes global cross-functional members and representation from key markets
  • Ensure appropriate involvement of other Market Access & Pricing team members and leadership in IVS Frameworks
  • Drive the required payer insights and payer research to ensure robust and validated IVS Frameworks
  • Communicate project issues and progress effectively and in a timely manner to all stakeholders
  • Support key markets on execution of IVS Frameworks
  • Leverage and share best practices across key markets
  • Support regions and key markets to engage externally in shaping the payer environment to enable IVS
  • As required by the business, ensure effective budget planning and secure resources to IVS Frameworks
  • Mentor and develop team members as required
  • Comply with AZ policies, standards and procedures in every interaction
  • Support key markets in negotiations with reimbursement authorities

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science, business, economics or political sciences/public policy
  • Experience developing and executing Outcomes-based Agreements and other innovative payer contracts
  • Experience in a MC in a commercial strategy function and/or customer facing with payers, e.g. managed markets brand director, business development director, head of pricing/access
  • Track record of delivery in the payer area, or in a commercial function either in terms of strategy or in influencing payer decision making
  • Relevant drug development and/or commercialization experience within the pharmaceutical/medical industry
  • Experience working with clinicians, pharmacists and payers on evidence-based customer solutions, e.g. through working with local payers in EU or commercial customers in the US
  • Experience in communicating and negotiating product listing/reimbursement agreements with national, regional and or local payers
  • Strategic leader - able to set direction, inspire commitment within team and cross functionally to ensure delivery

Desirable Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification in biomedical science, business administration, finance, or economics
  • Payer, HTA, public health, or health policy experience
  • Experience constructing payer value stories and incorporating these into TPPs and development programs
  • Experience in communicating and negotiating product listing/reimbursement agreements with national, regional and or local
