The Senior Process Engineer (Sr. PE) for New Technology and Innovation is energetic, self-motivated and innovative individual who possess skills required to successfully align, develop and execute new technology projects in a collaborative, customer focused manner.  The Sr. PE will build business cases, develop data packages and support implementation of new applications and/or technologies at manufacturing sites.  This role will require the ability to gather and understand business needs and work with CMC technical teams, manufacturing and testing sites (internal and external) and process development to collaboratively develop solutions.  The role combines strategic thinking and practical application by developing and executing step-wise implementation plans that transform the current state of manufacturing.  


Job responsibilities include working with the Global Technology and Operations (GTO) Science and Technology (S&T) Director and other relevant stakeholders to support Science and Technology Strategy Development:

  • Support the development and maintenance of the manufacturing technology strategy and roadmap.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies used in the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals with the awareness of the needs of Operations
  • Cost modeling and business case development in support of conveying the value of new strategies and new technologies.
  • Facilitates communication and alignment of Development and Operations technical decisions on technology strategy including presentations to peer level and senior management.
  • Drive implementation of new technology across the network per the S&T strategy roadmap.
  • Connect with vendors of new technology packages to develop detailed implementation plans
  • Develop and implement new technologies across drug substance and drug product/ device manufacturing and analytical testing operations in a collaborative manner with key stakeholders.
  • Facilitates alignment of Development and Operations technical decisions on new technology implementation including presentations to peer level and senior management.
  • Create technology development packages to evaluate new technologies or materials including test plan development and laboratory execution to confirm manufacturer claims and ensure quality, performance and safety requirements are met.

Typical Accountabilities:

  • Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role. Complete all required training on the AZ Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards on time. Report potential issues of non-compliance.
  • Manages leading-edge projects across functions or internationally. Role requires a high level of interactive communication to set clear direction for the cross functional team and directly advising others at a high level.
  • Manages high level risk by making complex judgements, developing innovative solutions and applying comprehensive cross-functional and industry understanding.

This position does not have direct reports, however, it is a matrix position that can have dotted line relationships.  This position is expected to mentor others in the organization.

This role supports technology deployment at internal and contract manufacturing sites around the world.  This role requires up to 25% travel mostly throughout the US and Europe.  

Qualifications:

Education:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Biological/Physical Sciences, or equivalent focus of study with a minimum of eight (8) years' experience, or
  • M.S with a minimum of eight (8) years' experience, or PhD with a miniumum of sevel (7) years' experience.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of biologic manufacturing process
  • Able to work on multiple projects and drive project completion
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical, analytical and technical skills
  • Demonstrate good oral and written skills 
  • Comfortable working in a matrixed reporting environment
  • Comfortable integrated new technology into existing GMP manufacturing environments

Desired:

  • Prior experience in leading/participating in implementation of new technology in a Manufacturing setting a plus
