As the Senior Manager of Safety, Health & Environment you will develop, implement, revise and/or maintain environment, health & safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and company standards.

Main Responsibilities


  • Performs accident management activities, including injury management, investigations and associated recordkeeping. 
  • Identifies, implements and tracks corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintains injury records in accordance with government regulations and corporate practices. 
  • Manages the workers' compensation process, if applicable.
  • Assess risk and makes recommendations to control hazards.
  • Manages life safety, fire and property risk management programs.  Works with corporate staff, site personnel and insurers to manage risks.
  • Secures, revises and/or maintains applicable environmental and hazardous materials permit
  • Develops implements and maintains employee training programs for topics related to health, safety and the environment
  • Responsible for developing appropriate emergency plans and response capabilities.  Available to respond to emergencies during off-hours (evenings, weekends, holidays)
  • Stays current on new government regulations as they are promulgated, as well as new developments in industry (best practices).
  • Builds relationships with key members of site and corporate management to foster support for EHS programs.
  • Directs activities of various contractors assisting with waste management, safety equipment maintenance or other functional activities.
  • Supervises and develops Staff members
  • Plans and manages departmental budget for site activities
  • Participates on various planning and operational teams.
  • Maintains and reports EHS metrics per Corporate requirements
  • Focuses on strategic planning rather than tactical execution.  Develops and implements strategies for sustainable and scalable business processes.


  • Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role.  Complete all required training on the AZ Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards on time.   Report potential issues of non-compliance.

In addition, for Managers and Project Team Leaders:

  • Ensure and monitor compliance by team members and third parties by (a) positively reinforcing the Code of Conduct and all relevant AstraZeneca Policies and Standards, (b) ensuring completion of all required training, (c) fostering a culture of openness in which employees are comfortable raising questions or concerns, and (d) immediately addressing and reporting, as appropriate, instances of non-compliance.
  • Manager Accountabilities at AstraZeneca include Ethical Conduct and Compliance, Team Management, Performance Management, Individual Development Planning, Talent Management, Recruitment, People information, SHE accountabilities, and Fiscal and Financial awareness. 
  • Leaders with accountability for GXP areas are expected to understand the legal and regulatory requirements of their roles in providing appropriate resources (which could be human, financial, material, facilities, and equipment) to maintain the Quality system and continually improve its effectiveness.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Assignments are received in task-and objective-orientated terms.  Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidelines.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.  Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units.  Recommends modifications to operating policies.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments would normally result in serious delays to assigned projects resulting in considerable expenditure of additional time, human resources, funds, etc.
  • Saying what needs to be said at the right time, to others, including senior management, in the right manner.  Doesn’t hold back anything that needs to be said.
  • Provides current, direct, complete and actionable positive and corrective feedback to a wider range of personnel
  • Encourages direct and tough debate but isn’t afraid to end it and move on. 
  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts.  Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal representatives concerning specific operations.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or comparable
  • Minimum seven (7) years of Safety, Industrial Hygiene experienced required.
  • Technical Expertise: CSP, CIH, CHMM , or PE required
