We are searching for a Portfolio Director to join the AstraZeneca Global Engineering function in Coppell, TX with accountability for delivering multiple key pharma capital investment projects. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction to a number of project teams to plan and deliver projects according to the highest standards of safety & compliance, on time and within budget, ensuring that customer requirements and stakeholder expectations are consistently identified and interpreted correctly within the project delivery. 

You will need to have significant experience in capital project delivery – having demonstrable experience of leading the delivery process for large and complex engineering projects across global teams.  You will also have directly and indirectly managed Project Teams and have experience in liaising with senior stakeholders.

This global role will be based in Coppell, TX to support delivery of the integrated Lokelma investment program.  The role may require significant travel to support additional projects/ teams. In addition to portfolio responsibility, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for ensuring that the planning and implementation of Commissioning and Qualification strategy for sanctioned capital project investments is performed to the expectations set-out in management guidance. In addition, the successful candidate shall also establish and maintain successful partnerships in the business in order to strategize and plan the efficient, timely & successful transfer of completed assets to the business unit and into operation.

Finally, the successful candidate will also support ongoing development and governance initiatives related to continuous improvement of our Capital Project Delivery Process (CPDP). While this role will be predominately focused on the Lokelma Program in Coppell during 2019/209, this role is global and the you will need to have global mobility to potentially participate in business evaluation studies, facilitate workshops with site-based clients, and build stakeholder relationships across the AstraZeneca enterprise.

Main Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for a wide range of significant engineering projects /programs across multiple sites in Coppell as well as managing your allocated programs of work through to completion on time and within budget.
  • You will be responsible for leading a portfolio of global projects up to $400m with a core project team of up to 15 associated with our Lokelma capital investment strategy with initial focus being at our Lokelma Supply Site in Coppell, TX.  You will also have a team of direct reports and you will be responsible for leading, coaching and developing your direct reports as well as providing expertise and guidance to your project teams.
  • You will define the standards and reporting required to monitor and review performance in your areas of responsibility and make appropriate interventions where required.  Providing functional governance for your areas of responsibility.
  • Taking responsibility for defining and executing a sourcing strategy for projects or programs, including negotiation, appointment, control and integration of multiple vendors and internal partners.
  • As Portfolio Director, you will provide oversight of performance delivery and report to key stakeholders on project progress including scope, schedule, budget, SHE and regulatory compliance. You will also act as single point of accountability for internal senior stakeholders and partners

Essential Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering and 15+ years of experience; or equivalent experience
  • Proven senior project leadership experience working in a global complex organization
  • Demonstrable experience of leading multiple significant projects/programs in a matrix organization to conclusion on time and in budget
  • Team leadership experience – experience of coaching and developing large project teams.
  • Full and detailed knowledge of relevant Safety, Health & Environment legislation
  • Senior stakeholder management and networking expertise
  • Capability of developing and implementing business strategy

Preferred Requirements:

  • MS degree preferred
  • Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Preferred
