As the R&D Manager within the Purification Process Sciences group in Cambridge, UK you will have responsibility for the Research Support Team to conduct purifications and analysis of recombinant proteins. With 2-3 direct reports you will provide planning, organisation and monitoring of the processes run on a day to day basis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for a core group that interfaces with multiple internal scientific groups across R & D and/or other departments.
  • Working under general supervision of Associate Director. 
  • Making detailed observations, analyses data, and interprets results.
  • Effectively presents results at internal meetings. 
  • Participating at external scientific meetings. 
  • Responsible for meeting project goals within time and budget constraints
  • Maintaining high level of expertise through review of scientific literature and attendance at scientific conferences.
  • Seeking to apply expertise to continuous process and technical improvement in their area of responsibility
  • Performing as a contributing member of one or more project teams.
  • General laboratory activities along with the following
  • Protein purification and formulation
  • Protein purification process development and optimisation
  • Protein analysis  - using standard methods including HPLC, SDS PAGE, Spectrophotometer)

Essential requirements

  • BSc in relevant subject eg: Biology/Biochemistry  based
  • Work in protein purification either at University or industry
  • Written and spoken English with a basic understanding of mathematics chemistry and biology. Understanding of the basic principles of protein purification and the associated analytics.
  • Hard working, balanced and meticulous with an ability to work well under pressure. Adaptable and a team player with a conscientious attitude and enthusiasm. Clear communication, capable of multitasking.

Desirable requirements

  • Line Management
  • Experience in the field of protein purification, especially with regard to Monoclonal Antibody and Related Proteins. 
  • Keen desire to build on the role
